The Conversation

What are you most excited about with regards to your program?

“My players! We have a great team dynamic and a hard working and dedicated group of young women on the team. They are competitive athletes, strong students and great people!

What jumps out at you when recruiting? What do you look for in a player?

Hard working players who are willing to do whatever they can to help the team including re-defend, fight for ground balls, set picks, general hustle!

What are your “pet peeves” when recruiting?

Getting emails the very night before or during the event. It’s tough to add recruits in to the schedule at that point. A week ahead of the event is good timing!

What is the best way interested student-athletes should get in touch with you?

Email me! It helps your email address includes your name and grad year.

What should student-athletes avoid in their messaging to college coaches?

Brevity in introductory emails is appreciated. I like to learn about you but more than a few paragraphs takes more time than I have.

How would you describe your coaching style?

I try to be upbeat, energetic, teaching oriented and fun.

Walk us through your timeline when recruiting a student athlete?

I try and have my recruiting for a given year nearly done before the start of that student’s senior year.

What kind of players succeed at your program?

Team oriented players who work hard and enjoy the rigorous academic program.

Tell us about your transition from lacrosse player to lacrosse coach.

As I recall, it was hard not being on the field as a young coach, but the older I got, the more I appreciated helping players develop and watching their maturation and evolution during their careers.

What’s your recruiting strategy going into an event? After an event?

I try to watch every player that has contacted me ahead of time!

Once again, thanks to Judy for her time, and best of luck to Vassar this season!
