WhistleIt is no secret club teams have become vital to the recruiting process.

While it is certainly possible to be recruited and not be on a club team, more often than not these organizations are the best way to get to the events college coaches will be recruiting at.

Picking the right club team, however, is imperative. Here are a few tips when doing your research.

All club teams are not created equal! Many are involved in the business for the wrong reasons (said more overtly: for your money), while others can overpromise but under-deliver.

So, be sure to do your research when choosing a club team, and consider the following:

1. Get input from players and families already involved in the club. How has their experience been?

2. Is this club going to attend tournaments and showcases that will provide exposure to those schools I am interested in and looking at?

3. Get some background on the Directors and their philosophy. Are they emphasizing individual development? Team competition?

4. Who are the coaches in the club? Are they knowledgeable? Are they invested in player development or simply involved for a paycheck?

5. How many times a week does the team practice? How many events are they attending, and are those events going to be filled with coaches that fit your interests and abilities?

Having confident answers to these questions will go a long way when picking the right club team to play with, which is one of the most important decisions you will make as it relates to the recruiting process.
