Some news and notes in advance of this evening’s CHSAA matchup as Chaminade travels to St. Anthony’s. THE TEAMS HAVE MET ALREADY THIS SEASON These two teams meet twice annually in the regular season and almost always a third time in the CHSAA final. Tonight will be the second of those presumed three games for 2013. The first meeting occurred April 10 at Chaminade, where the Flyers took a 10-6 decision. Recent history has favored Chaminade in the regular season, but St. Anthony’s in the final. St. Anthony’s has won the past four championship games (2009-2012), while Chaminade has reeled off five consecutive regular season victories. The last win for the Friars in the regular season came on May 13, 2010. ...

The Darien Blue Wave (CT) defeated the visiting Greenwich Cardinals (CT) by a final score of 17-9 in a big FCIAC matchup at Darien High School on Tuesday. The win moves Darien to 12-1 on the season. Greenwich suffers its second loss of 2013 and falls to 11-2. The game was a rematch of the 2012 FCIAC final, also won by Darien. ...

Last week, the boy’s high school season featured some great games, highlighted by two teams – Boys’ Latin (MD) and Ward Melville (NY) – keeping their undefeated seasons intact as they head into the home stretch. Meanwhile, the season is over already in some areas, including Texas, where St. Mark’s (TX) took down Episcopal Dallas (TX) in overtime, 8-7, to win the State Championship. Many teams are winding down their schedules this week, with some great matchups. ...

Last week girl’s high school action was highlighted by teams keeping their unbeaten seasons alive, beginning with McDonogh (MD), who capped off a perfect regular season with a win over Marriotts Ridge (MD) on Thursday. Meanwhile, Garden City (NY), Moorestown (NJ) and Shawnee (NJ) all kept their perfect records intact as well. This week features some huge games between national powers. ...

The weekend in the boy’s high school landscape was highlighted by two teams keeping their records unscathed and the Texas State Championships. Boys’ Latin (MD) has been incredible all season, and pushed their record to 17-0 with a 13-8 victory over Loyola-Blakefield (MD) on Friday. The Lakers are one win away from navigating through a very difficult regular season MIAA and out-of-conference schedule unbeaten. They play St. Paul’s (MD) on Tuesday in their season finale. Meanwhile on Long Island, the Ward Melville Patriots (NY) have established themselves as the team to beat, moving to 14-0 with wins over William Floyd (NY) on Thursday and Bayshore (NY) and Saturday. Two games remain for the Patriots in their quest for an undefeated regular season. Last week in girl’s high school lacrosse was highlighted by great teams keeping their records unbeaten, and the Florida State Championships. McDonogh (MD) capped off a perfect regular season on Thursday, beating previously undefeated Marriotts Ridge (MD) going away, 19-9. The Eagles finish the regular season with a 19-0 record. Also Thursday on Long Island, Garden City (NY) remained unscathed, sneaking by Farmingdale (NY), 13-12, in double overtime. The Trojans moved to 11-0 with the win, while the Dalers fell to 10-2. Two New Jersey powers remained undefeated last week as well. Moorestown (NJ) moved to 15-0 on Saturday with a 9-5 win over Strath Haven (PA). Meanwhile, Shawnee (NJ) moved to 12-0 with two wins last week. The teams will meet on Tuesday in a huge matchup. ...
