It was a loaded weekend in boys lacrosse action, with two big upsets of note on Saturday. No. 6 La Salle College High School (PA) traveled to No. 4 Garden City (NY) and took down the Trojans by a final score of 7-4. It was a great defensive game in which the Explorers used two quick goals by Maryland-bound Senior Matt Rambo at the start of the second half to take a 4-2 lead and never looked back. The La Salle Explorers notched a huge road victory on Saturday over Garden City. Garden City had won 24 consecutive games, their last loss coming in the 2011 New York State Championship Game. They entered the game with a 2-0 record this season, including a big win over Loyola-Blakefield (MD) at M&T Bank Stadium. La Salle entered the game 1-0, with an impressive win over DeMatha (MD) by a 9-6 score. The game was a defensive battle, with La Salle breaking a 2-2 tie at halftime with two quick markers to begin the third quarter en route to the win. ...

The sixth-ranked La Salle Explorers (PA) (2-0) defeated the fourth-ranked Garden City Trojans (NY) by a final score of 7-4 at Garden City High School on Saturday. The win moves La Salle to 2-0 on the season. Garden City falls to 2-1. The loss snaps a 24-game winning streak for the Trojans and marks their first loss since the 2011 New York State Championship Game. With their 7-6 victory over Amherst on Wednesday, March 27, Wesleyan claimed the outright Little Three mens lacrosse title for 2013. Wesleyan had previously defeated Williams, also by a 7-6 tally, to open the season on March 9. The Little Three an affiliation comprised of Division III institutions Amherst, Wesleyan and Williams is believed to be the oldest continuous intercollegiate athletic conference without a member change in the United States (a refreshing albeit unscientific statistic amid todays ubiquitous conference realignment). While the schools are officially part of the NESCAC (New England Small College Athletic Conference), the competition among the three rivals is steeped in tradition. Games between the Lord Jeffs, Cardinals and Ephs carry with them not only NESCAC implications (and odd mascots), but bragging rights that extend well beyond graduation. ...
