LS Boys RecapIt was a loaded weekend in boy’s lacrosse action, with two big upsets of note on Saturday.

No. 6 La Salle College High School (PA) traveled to No. 4 Garden City (NY) and took down the Trojans by a final score of 7-4. It was a great defensive game in which the Explorers used two quick goals by Maryland-bound Senior Matt Rambo at the start of the second half to take a 4-2 lead and never looked back. The win snapped a 24-game winning streak for Garden City.

In our Stat of the Week last Tuesday, we noted that Brunswick (CT) was getting close to defeating perennial power Deerfield (MA), losing by one goal – including last season’s overtime setback – in the past two meetings between the schools. On Saturday, the Bruins finally got over the hump, defeating the Big Green, 9-7. It was the first ever win for the Greenwich over Deerfield.

It was also a big weekend for Chaminade (NY), who took down West Islip (NY) in impressive fashion on the road, 9-4. The loss was the first for the Lions in 20 games, as the defending New York State Class A Champions last fell March 31, 2012 – also to the Flyers, that game by a 7-6 count. Chaminade moves to 3-0 on the season, while West Islip falls to 1-1.
