Introduction

We caught up with Ithaca College Men’s Lacrosse Assistant Coach Alex Karman for a discussion about the Ithaca lacrosse program and what he looks for when recruiting student-athletes.

You can find our conversation below.

The Conversation

What are you most excited about with regards to your program?

Our program has a great culture that starts with the coaching staff and is embodied by the players. We recruit great lacrosse players and even better people to be apart of the Ithaca College lacrosse team. We play a brand of lacrosse that is fast, physical, and intelligent.

What jumps out at you when recruiting? What do you look for in a player?

I look for a player who plays fast, demonstrates a smart lacrosse IQ, and plays in a way that makes his teammates better.

What are your “pet peeves” when recruiting?

Players who don’t play well within a system and are selfish with the ball.

What is the best way interested student-athletes should get in touch with you?

Interested student-athletes should contact me (or another coach) via email. I can be reached at at akarman1@ithaca.edu.

What should student-athletes avoid in their messaging to college coaches?

Make sure that your emails or conversations with college coaches are professional. Draft an email that is correctly written and is written for a specific school. Don’t send out the same generic email to every college.

Once again, thanks to Alex for his time, and best of luck to Ithaca the rest of the season!
