ssgirlsThe 2013 Super Sophs Girls Showcase took place on Sunday, July 28 at Greenwich High School in Greenwich, Connecticut.

The one-day event featured over 150 members of the 2015 Class, broken up into 10 teams.

After registration, the day began with an informative recruiting seminar run by SportsRecruits.com. The informational session, which was open to players and parents, provided an overview of the recruiting timeline and featured a Q & A to aid players and their families.

Here are five players that stood out and some others who made an impression.


SUPER SOPHS GIRLS SHOWCASE – FEATURED FIVE:

1. KERI MC CARTHY

Position: Midfield

Class: 2015

High School: Hauppauge (NY)

Overall: McCarthy is a tall, athletic midfielder who was dominant during Super Sophs on Sunday. She used her outstanding speed through the midfield to spark transition, and was a force on 50/50 ground balls and draw controls. Offensively, she is a powerful dodger who makes strong, decisive moves to the cage. She has an outstanding scoring touch and an excellent shot, which is both hard and accurate.

2. PAYTON VAN KIRK

Position: Midfield

Class: 2015

High School: Stephen Decatur (MD)

Overall: Another outstanding midfielder, Van Kirk is a tremendous athlete with a polished offensive game. The Ocean City, Maryland product impressed with both her scoring ability as well as her passing ability, showing excellent judgment when attacking the cage. She has a great shot on the run, which she unleashed on multiple occasions. Van Kirk also possesses great vision, identifying slides and finding open teammates with ease.

3. HAELLE CHOMO

Position: Goalie

Class: 2015

High School: St. Mary’s (MD)

Overall: Chomo had a great day in the net. She moves her stick extraordinarily well, meeting the ball in the air without guessing. Her positioning was consistently outstanding, allowing her to make some tough saves look fairly routine. A vocal goalie, she was constantly identifying the ball and reinforcing teammates. But what stood out most about Chomo was her skill on outlet passes. She threw crisp, on-the-money passes to breaking teammates all day, sparking transition. Most impressively, she had the strength to reach the 40 accurately, stretching the field for her team with ease.

From the Notebook: Great outlet passer. Vocal but positive. Moves well. Squares herself to the shooter. Quick stick.

4. LOGAN BOYLE

Position: Midfield

Class: 2015

High School: Rutland (VT)

Overall: A quick attacker, Boyle is an excellent dodger who showcased great quickness on Sunday. An efficient scorer with both hands, the Rutland, Vermont product had no problems beating defenders and getting to the goal. She played hard, and while her skill with the ball was most noteworthy, she also was very effective without it, cutting hard to get open and following slides. She also put in good effort on rides, winning back possessions for her team on multiple occasions.

5. EMILY YOO

Position: Attack

Class: 2015

High School: Northport (NY)

Overall: Yoo had a great day at Super Sophs, thanks in large part to her outstanding vision and passing ability. She made her mark dodging from X, where her eyes were constantly scanning the field for open cutters. Yoo had numerous assists, and also displayed the ability to score on her own when the situation warranted. She also displayed excellent recognition of when to move her defender into shooting space. With her skill and high lacrosse IQ, she is a player to watch.

Others who made an impression:

Casey Tucker – D/M – 2015 – Wilton (CT): A quick player, Tucker was impressive on the defensive end. She showed great footwork, and was excellent on 50/50 balls in the middle of the field. Tucker played hard and smart, and was noticeable every time she was on the field.

Linna Jalinskas – A – 2015 – Farmington (CT): A crafty attackman, Jalinskas is a very productive player. She is equally efficient as a passer or scorer, showing poise when looking for open cutters and the ability to dodge to the goal. Also notable was her play on loose balls, where she showed excellent stick skills and great hustle tracking down possessions for her team.

Alexa Radziewicz – D – 2015 – Christian Brothers Academy (NY): Radziewicz showed great athleticism throughout the day. A fast player, she has excellent footwork and was a force in the transition game, scooping up numerous ground balls and legging them to the offensive end. Her defensive footwork was excellent, and her lateral movement allowed her to thwart dodgers.

Hafsa Moinuddin – M – 2015 – Hotchkiss (CT): Moinuddin is a high-motor player who was constantly involved in the action at Super Sophs. Defensively, she showed good aggressiveness and anticipation, with some excellent interceptions and ground balls. Offensively, she was able to get to the net in transition situations, and showed good stick skills handling passes in the eight-meter arc.

Kaitlyn Shipskie – G – 2015 – Roswell (GA): Shipskie is a poised goaltender who plays with excellent technique. She has a great stick, and throws outstanding outlet passes. Most impressively, she was able to make consecutive saves on the same possession, helping her defense when things broke down.
