Katie Samson FestivalLast week, the boy’s high school season featured some great matchups, highlighted by West-Coast power St. Ignatius (CA) making a trip East for two games. The Wildcats went 1-1 – losing to Chaminade (NY) Thursday before defeating Seton Hall Prep (NJ) Saturday – in what was a big statement for the growth of the game out West.

Other big results included Ward Melville (NY) continuing their strong season with a convincing 11-2 win over West Islip (NY) yesterday. It was the Patriots’ first win over the Lions since 2009. Also last week, Boys’ Latin (MD) took down Calvert Hall (MD) to remain undefeated. Delbarton (NJ) also remained unbeaten, while Chaminade (NY) suffered their first loss at the hands of Yorktown (NY). At the Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival, Episcopal Academy (PA) took down Lawrenceville (NJ) while La Salle (PA) topped the Haverford School (PA).

This week features another set of good games.

GAME OF THE WEEK
Ridgefield (CT) at Yorktown (NY) – Tuesday, 4/30
With some great games in the MIAA, this was a tough choice. But Yorktown is coming off a huge win over previously undefeated Chaminade on Saturday to move their record to 10-1. The Huskers will face a second consecutive 9-0 team as they take on Ridgefield today. Coach Roy Colsey’s Tigers have been excellent this season, notably defensively, where they have not allowed more than six goals in any of their nine wins. This should be an great Tri-State Area battle.

TEAM TO WATCH
St. Paul’s (MD)
We were quick to notice St. Paul’s this season, featuring the Crusader’s as our Team of the Week back in late March. They have continued their amazing season, and enter the week at 15-1 with their lone loss in overtime to Bullis (MD).

This week, they face a gauntlet in the MIAA. First today, they take on an 11-3 McDonogh (MD) team on the road. Things get no easier, as Friday Boys’ Latin (MD) comes to town. The Lakers have yet to lose a game this season, entering the week at 15-0.

Either contest has Game of the Week potential. It should be a fabulous couple of days in the ever-competitive MIAA, and a big week for St. Paul’s.

STAT OF THE WEEK
An interesting note on Ward Melville (NY)
The Patriots continued their impressive season yesterday with a dominating 11-2 victory over West Islip (NY). The win moves their record to 12-0, with wins over Garden City (NY), Smithtown East (NY), Smithtown West (NY) and Northport (NY).

Perhaps more impressive than their record, though, is how they are winning: Ward Melville has outscored their opponents 163-47, an average score of 13.6 to 3.9. Said another way, the Patriots have won each of their 12 games by roughly 10 goals per contest.

NOTEWORTHY GAMES
There are plenty of excellent games this week. Here are five that stand out in addition to those listed above.

4/30 Long Beach (NY) at Garden City (NY)
5/1 St. Anthony’s (NY) at Fairfield Prep (CT)
5/3 Episcopal Academy (PA) at Malvern Prep (PA)
5/3 Loyola-Blakefield (MD) at Boys’ Latin (MD)
5/4 Nisakayuna (NY) at Jamesville-DeWitt (NY)
