2The weekend in the boy’s high school landscape was highlighted by some big games, including a West-Coast power playing on the East Coast.

St. Ignatius (CA) made the trip from San Francisco to the New York area last week to play two games East of the Mississippi, and the Wildcats more than held their own. First on Thursday, they played perennial power Chaminade (NY) in Mineola, and gave the Flyers everything they could handle in a 5-4 setback. They followed that with a win over Seton Hall Prep (NJ) on Saturday, taking down the Pirates 6-5 in overtime. The game was part of the Big City Classic played at MetLife Stadium.

St. Ignatius finishes their East Coast swing with a 1-1 record. The Wildcats carried the banner proudly for lacrosse in California. The trip was a big statement for the school, and perhaps a bigger testament to the growth of the game out West.

After their victory over St. Ignatius Thursday, Chaminade traveled to Yorktown (NY), who handed the Flyers their first loss of the season by a 12-8 final. Yorktown is now 10-1, their only loss coming in overtime to Shenendehowa (NY) earlier this year. Chaminade is now 9-1 – still an impressive record given their brutal schedule.

Meanwhile down in Maryland, MIAA conference play continued. Boys’ Latin (MD) remained undefeated, moving to 15-0 with a 13-7 win over Calvert Hall (MD) on Friday. The Lakers avenged last season’s playoff defeat at the hands of the Cardinals.

It was also a big weekend in Pennsylvania, highlighted by the Katie Sampson Lacrosse Festival held at Radnor High School. It was an excellent day, and there were some great games played. La Salle (PA) took down the Haverford School (PA), 11-9, and moved to 11-2 on the season. Meanwhile, Episcopal Academy (PA) defeated Lawrenceville (NJ), 14-9, while Brunswick (CT) bested Penn Charter (PA), 10-4.

Elsewhere, Ward Melville (NY) remained undefeated last week, as did Delbarton (NJ). Malvern Prep (PA) continued its impressive campaign, winning two games to move to 10-1 on the season.
