PICThe weekend in the boy’s high school landscape was highlighted by some big rivalry games, as teams began their conference slates.

In Connecticut, Darien (CT) took down Wilton (CT) 12-10 in an FCIAC showdown Thursday night. Down in Maryland, the MIAA opened conference play. No. 1 Boys’ Latin (MD) continued their winning ways, first taking down McDonogh (MD) last Tuesday, 15-10 before dropping Severn (MD) on Friday, 14-6. The Lakers are now 11-0 on the year. Also from the MIAA last week, Calvert Hall (MD) handed St. Paul’s (MD) their first loss of the season, beating the Crusaders 13-12 on Tuesday. And McDonough rebounded from their loss to Boys’ Latin, taking down Loyola-Blakefield (MD) on Friday, 8-6.

It was another huge week for Chaminade (NY), who has played like one of the best teams in the country thus far in 2013. First on Wednesday, the Flyers took down rival St. Anthony’s (NY) 10-6 in the first of their annual (most-likely) three matchups. The Flyers closed their week with another impressive win, taking down Manhasset (NY) on the road 10-3 to improve to 6-0. As is usually their M.O., the Flyers have been excellent defensively. They have not given up more than six goals in a game this season, and have won each of their games by at least four goals.

It was also another big week for Ward Melville (NY), who outscored two opponents by a combined score of 32-10. The Patriots (6-0) have scored at least 14 goals in each of their games this season.
