Event Recap: Roundtable on Youth Sports Safety

This afternoon, the NFL hosted a Roundtable on Youth Sports and Safety at its headquarters in midtown Manhattan. Representatives from Little League Baseball, USA Basketball, USA Cheer, USA Football, USA Hockey, US Lacrosse and US Youth Soccer all presented as part of the event. Dr. Pieroth was an excellent moderator and speaker, able to convey important messages and supplemental information throughout. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also spoke to the invited organizations and news outlets. Goodell – who noted his daughters were lacrosse players – spoke about the importance of sports to him growing up, saying; “The things I learned in sports as a kid, I use today as Commissioner and an individual.” Representing US Lacrosse was Ann Carpenetti, the Managing Director of Game Administration for the organization. ...

The Patriots finished their season a perfect 22-0 and stake their claim as the top high school team in the country. It was the first State Title for Ward Melville since 2000. The Patriots were led Saturday by midfielder Christian Mazzone (Rutgers) – who netted two goals to go along with three assists – and LSM Dan Decker, who chipped in with two fast break goals. Also in New York, Garden City (NY) took down Jamesville-Dewitt (NY) by a final score of 13-8 for the Class B championship. As he has all season, sophomore James Sullivan – the Trojans’ faceoff specialist – was dominant on the day, allowing Garden City to break open a 3-3 tie at the half with six consecutive goals in the third. Garden City, after suffering some losses early in the season, really came on toward the end of the year and was the most improved team we saw from March to June. ...
