Chapter 3 took us to Conestoga High School (PA) on Friday night, April 5 for a matchup between the Pioneers and national power Boys’ Latin (MD). Utilizing deft ball movement and a quick-strike attack, Boys’ Latin took down the three-time defending PIAA State Champion Conestoga by an 18-3 count. The win moved Boys’ Latin to 9-0 on the season. Event Preview: Jersey Strong Showcase

The Jersey Strong Showcase will be held this afternoon at Madison High School in New Jersey beginning at 4:15 PM. The event is a recruiting showcase designed to give 16 of the best high school teams in New Jersey exposure to college coaches. Each of the 16 teams in attendance will play 3 games throughout the course of the afternoon. The event is an excellent stop for coaches, as some of the top talent in the State will be on hand. Among the teams competing – by invitation only – are Delbarton, Don Bosco Morristown, Mountain Lakes, and Summit. In addition to the talent on the field, the central location and mid-week timing of the event ensures many college coaches will be on-hand. Nearly 100 schools have committed to attending the event, including some of the top programs in the country from the Division I through the Division III level. ...

Relive the Season: Chapter 2 – La Salle College HS (PA) at Garden City (CT)

This spring, the LR News team traveled to 15 games across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Regions, making stops from Conestoga (PA) up to Salisbury (CT) and many in between. Chapter 2 took us to Garden City High School for big interstate matchup on Saturday, March 30 between La Salle (PA) and Garden City (NY). Utilizing two quick goals to start the second half, the visiting Explorers were able to defeat the Trojans, 7-4. The win moved La Salle to 2-0 on the season and snapped Garden City’s 24-game winning streak. Check out the video for some great highlights of the action.

Event Recap: Roundtable on Youth Sports Safety

This afternoon, the NFL hosted a Roundtable on Youth Sports and Safety at its headquarters in midtown Manhattan. Representatives from Little League Baseball, USA Basketball, USA Cheer, USA Football, USA Hockey, US Lacrosse and US Youth Soccer all presented as part of the event. Dr. Elizabeth Pieroth – a concussion specialist in Chicago and Head Injury Consultant for the Chicago Bears and Blackhawks – led the discussion, which ranged from concussion awareness in youth sports to issues facing the various governing bodies gathered. Dr. Pieroth was an excellent moderator and speaker, able to convey important messages and supplemental information throughout. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also spoke to the invited organizations and news outlets. Goodell – who noted his daughters were lacrosse players – spoke about the importance of sports to him growing up, saying; “The things I learned in sports as a kid, I use today as Commissioner and an individual.” Representing US Lacrosse was Ann Carpenetti, the Managing Director of Game Administration for the organization. ...

This spring, the LR News team traveled to 15 games across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Regions, making stops from Conestoga (PA) up to Salisbury (CT) and many in between. Chapter 1 took us to Greenwich High School for an early season scrimmage on Tuesday, March 26. Following a late two-goal charge from the visiting Brunswick School to tie the contest and send it into overtime, Greenwich was able to get the final tally to defeat the Bruins 7-6 on a chilly Spring afternoon in Connecticut. Weekend Recap: New York, Connecticut State Championships

The final few State Tournaments wrapped up last weekend, highlighted by the New York and Connecticut State Championship games. In New York, Ward Melville (NY) capped their dream season with a 16-4 thrashing of West Genesee (NY) for the Class A title. The Patriots finished their season a perfect 22-0 and stake their claim as the top high school team in the country. It was the first State Title for Ward Melville since 2000. The Patriots were led Saturday by midfielder Christian Mazzone (Rutgers) – who netted two goals to go along with three assists – and LSM Dan Decker, who chipped in with two fast break goals. Also in New York, Garden City (NY) took down Jamesville-Dewitt (NY) by a final score of 13-8 for the Class B championship. As he has all season, sophomore James Sullivan – the Trojans’ faceoff specialist – was dominant on the day, allowing Garden City to break open a 3-3 tie at the half with six consecutive goals in the third. Garden City, after suffering some losses early in the season, really came on toward the end of the year and was the most improved team we saw from March to June. ...
