We caught up with Franklin & Marshall Women’s Lacrosse Coach Katie Zichelli for a discussion about the F&M lacrosse program and what she looks for when recruiting student-athletes.

You can find our conversation below.

The Conversation

What are you most excited about with regards to your program?

The team chemistry and commitment our girls give to the program

What jumps out at you when recruiting? What do you look for in a player?

Hustle, coach ability and stick skills

What are your “pet peeves” when recruiting?

Not riding, bad body language

What is the best way interested student-athletes should get in touch with you?

Email-make it personal

What should student-athletes avoid in their messaging to college coaches?

We don’t need the times and fields of your games. We just need to know what tournaments you are going to, your club team and color and what # you are.

How would you describe your coaching style?

Firm but fun!

Walk us through your timeline when recruiting a student athlete?

We make sure we seen them at tournaments, coach them at a clinic, meet with them on campus and meet the team. We do an academic pre read as well

What kind of players succeed at your program?

Driven, hardworking players

What’s your recruiting strategy going into an event? After an event?

Having a list of names prior to an event but open to gathering new names. After an event I will reach out via email or phone calls to continue the process

Once again, thanks to Katie for her time, and best of luck to F&M this season!
