The Conversation

What are you most excited about with regards to your program?

Starting my 5th year and having nothing but lax players on the team!!

What jumps out at you when recruiting? What do you look for in a player?

Field Sense

What are your “pet peeves” when recruiting?

Someone not re-defending

What is the best way interested student-athletes should get in touch with you?

email or cell phone

What should student-athletes avoid in their messaging to college coaches?

Telling me how great they are

How would you describe your coaching style?

The best way to describe me is “Fatherly” Tough when I have to be and loving when I need to be

Walk us through your timeline when recruiting a student athlete?

Seeing a S/A play, emailing them about there secondary educational needs (I will only recruit S/A that are interested in Majors we have with good grades and test scores), if they are interested in what our school has to offer I have them fill out a player profile on our athletic web site, followed up by a text to them from me. I call there HS and club coaches and then set up a phone call with the S/A. After the call I follow up with the parents and continue a text conversation with the S/A.

What kind of players succeed at your program?

Hard working studious players

What’s your recruiting strategy going into an event? After an event?

looking at S/A that have reached out to us, then finding S/A that I think would be a good fit athletically.

Tell us about your transition from lacrosse player to lacrosse coach.

I wasn’t a lacrosse player. I played Baseball, Basketball and Soccer. I believe my transition was an easy one. I had been there also.

Once again, thanks to Joe for his time, and best of luck to Albertus Magnus this season
