Introduction
We caught up with Army Men’s Lacrosse Assistant Coach Justin Turri for a discussion about the Army lacrosse program and what he looks for when recruiting student-athletes.

The Conversation
What jumps out at you when recruiting? What do you look for in a player?
First things first, they must be a good person and a good teammate. Then, the usual intangibles that can’t be coached: attitude, effort, IQ/instincts/awareness, and explosive/fluid athleticism.
What are your “pet peeves” when recruiting?
Watching players that don’t try to make their teammates better with their play, and players with poor body language and reactions to things not going their way.
What is the best way interested student-athletes should get in touch with you?
Reach out to a program’s coaching staff (making sure the assistants are on the e-mail as we are the ones that look through most of the recruiting e-mails we get) with a well-organized and personal message about your specific interest in our program, your academic information, athletic information, extracurriculars, and a (short) highlight tape, if possible.
What should student-athletes avoid in their messaging to college coaches?
Generic messages that make no specific mention of why you like the university and program, and any mail merge errors (wrong coaches name, wrong university name, etc.) – this is happening more and more with mass e-mails being sent through recruiting services, and it’s a huge turn off!
Once again, thanks to Justin for his time, and best of luck to Army the rest of the season!
