3Last week, the boy’s high school season featured some great games, highlighted by Ward Melville’s (NY) big win over Garden City (NY) on Saturday in a Long Island non-league matchup and Boys’ Latin (MD) taking down Gilman (MD) in an MIAA battle on Friday. Also in the MIAA, McDonogh (MD) picked up a huge win yesterday over Calvert Hall (MD).

This week is extremely busy, with plenty of great games.

GAME OF THE WEEK
Ward Melville (NY) at Northport (NY) – Tuesday, 4/23
With so many great games this week, it was difficult to narrow it down to just one. But with the way Ward Melville and Northport have played, this one was hard to ignore and will have major implications on playoff seeding. Ward Melville comes in undefeated at 9-0, while Northport has only one blemish – a 7-6 loss to West Islip (NY) – on its 9-1 resume. The Patriots have played most of their difficult games at home and will take the road for this huge Suffolk County Class A contest.

TEAM TO WATCH
Haverford School (PA)
The Fords began the season with three straight losses before righting the ship, having won eight of their past nine contests. This week is a big test, with three huge games on the docket. First on Tuesday, they take on Episcopal Academy (PA). Next up is Penn Charter (PA) on the road Thursday. The week ends as they take on La Salle (PA) at the Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival hosted by Radnor (PA). Three games against some excellent competition in six days should be telling.

Content Note: LR News will be on-site at the Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival. Be sure to check back for video and observations from the action Saturday.

STAT OF THE WEEK
An interesting tidbit from the St. Ignatius (CA) at Chaminade (NY) matchup – Thursday, 4/25
St. Ignatius is 16-0 this season and takes the road this week for an East Coast trip. Interstate matchups are always fun, and Thursday’s contest against Chaminade should be an exciting tilt. The Flyers are also undefeated at 8-0 with some impressive wins already this season.

Thursday’s game will be a battle of a prolific offense and a prolific defense. St. Ignatius enters the game averaging a gaudy 14.9 goals per game. On the flip side, Chaminade’s defense is allowing just 3.9 goals per game. Should be an excellent matchup come Thursday in Mineola.
