After a dominating victory over Cherry Creek (CO) last Saturday – a 15-4 decision for the Quakers that moved them to 4-0 – head coach Deanna Knobloch was kind enough to join us.

Coach Knobloch hit on a variety of topics, including her team’s play, their defensive principles and how the program – which has won 13 consecutive State Titles – has maintained such an extraordinary level of success. The Quakers added another victory this week, jumping to 5-0 on the year.

On how her team was able to execute against Cherry Creek:

This was the first true test for us, so the team was very excited to play. They came out and executed our game plan perfectly, almost. I was very excited, very happy about their performance today.

On her team’s play defensively:

Defense played the game we practice everyday – quick slides, double-teams, communication – just being aggressive and going after it. We played our ‘one’ defense today, which is high pressure on the player with the ball. They executed it very well.

On how the team has been so prolific on offense early in the season:

We have a deep bench. We have a lot of players that can come in and out of the game and it doesn’t ruin the flow. Everyone can score – and that is a big bonus for us.

On how the program has been so successful, winning 13 consecutive State Titles:

There is a lot that goes into that. There are so many factors that make this team what it is. I think number one – it is the players. They feed off of each other; they don’t want to ever be the team that ‘lost.’ They come out here every year and want to defend their title. So I have to give credit to them and the seniors leading them. Also, the parents of this program – everything you see that happens is one big family. If it were not that way, we would not be where we are every year.
