Some news and notes in advance of tonights big FCIAC matchup as Darien (2-1) travels to Wilton (1-2).
The game will be Chapter 5 of LR News Spring Coverage. Be sure to follow @SpikeMal for score updates after each quarter.
THE TEAMS ARE LONGTIME RIVALS.
These two teams are very familiar with each other, meeting numerous times over the years in the regular season, FCIAC Tournament and State Playoffs. Last season, the Blue Wave went 2-0, winning the regular season matchup as well as in the semi-finals of the State Playoffs.
In 2011, the teams played three games, with Darien taking both the regular season and FCIAC playoff contests before Wilton took them down in the State Playoffs.
THE GAME IS A MATCHUP OF THE PAST TWO STATE CHAMPIONS.
Darien, ranked number 17 in the country in the latest Nike/US Lacrosse National High School poll, won the 2012 Connecticut Class M State Title. It was their ninth State Championship, a number that includes a streak of six consecutive crowns from 2005-2010.
Meanwhile, Wilton won the State Championship in 2011, finishing the year at 16-6. It was the fifth title for the Warriors.
KEEP AN EYE ON: THE WEATHER.
In a rivalry game where records can be thrown out the window, many different factors come into play. One such factor tonight may be Mother Nature.
The forecast calls for some rain in the area, which tends to slow everything down and could level the playing field even further between the two teams.
