Girl’s High School Weekend Recap: April 8

Last week, there were some fantastic interstate girl’s high school matchups, one of which featured a notable upset. Down in Florida, Vero Beach (FL) took down St. Anthony’s (NY) by a surprising 13-12 score. Vero Beach moved to 12-4 on the season, while St. Anthony’s dropped to 2-1. In another big interstate matchup, Cherry Creek (CO) – winners of two of the past three Colorado State Titles – traveled to perennial power Moorestown (NJ) – winners of 13 consecutive New Jersey State Titles. The game was close early before Moorestown pulled away for the 15-4 win. ...

Finally starting to feel like Spring in New York City. It was a big weekend in lacrosse, highlighted by Albany’s victory over Hopkins on Friday in a men's DI contest. The Great Danes became only the seventh team to defeat both Syracuse and Hopkins in the same season since 1971. There is much more on Albany, as well as a big upset on the women’s DI side and plenty of coverage of the week in men’s DIII ranks in today’s links. Enjoy! ...

Boy’s High School Weekend Recap: April 8

It was another solid weekend in the boy’s high school landscape, which featured a few teams recording statement wins. No. 1 Boys’ Latin (MD) traveled to three-time defending PIAA State Champion Conestoga (PA) and took down the Pioneers by an eye-opening final score of 18-3. After spending the first three minutes of the contest on defense, the Lakers went on an offensive tear, scoring seven goals to end the first and eight in the second for a commanding 15-0 halftime lead. In our Stat of the Week last Tuesday, we noted Delbarton (NJ) was just 2-6 against St. Antony’s (NY) since 2005, with the Green Wave giving up at least eight goals in each of the six losses, but fewer than eight in both wins (2006 and 2007). Recent history suggested holding the Friars under eight would bode well – and it did indeed. Delbarton took down St. Anthony’s, 7-3 on the road. Impressive early win for the Green Wave. ...

Quick Recap: No. 6 Moorestown (NJ) 15, Cherry Creek (CO) 4

Sixth-ranked Moorestown (NJ) defeated Colorado power Cherry Creek (CO) going away by the final score of 15-4 at Moorestown High School in New Jersey on Saturday. The win moves Moorestown to 4-0 on the season. Cherry Creek suffered its first setback of 2013 and falls to 4-1. The teams traded goals in the opening minutes before Moorestown went on a three-goal run to jump ahead 4-1. A Cherry Creek goal made the game 4-2, and a draw control for the Bruins had them on the attack again. But the Moorestown defense was up to the task, and after they were able to thwart a long Bruins possession, the Quakers ended the half with another three-goal spurt to take a 7-2 lead into the break. ...
