The Week Ahead: Boy’s High School Lacrosse

The weekend in the boy’s high school landscape was highlighted by teams winding down their regular season slates and playoffs beginning. St. Anthony’s (NY) went 1-1 in two big games last week, falling to CHSAA rival Chaminade (NY), 7-5 before besting Yorktown (NY) in overtime on Saturday. Playoffs are underway in many areas, with some Long Island games beginning yesterday, including Garden City (NY) taking down Bethpage (NY) among the notable victories. Meanwhile, the season concluded in more areas, including California, where St. Ignatius (CA) took the MCAL crown and in Washington, D.C., where Gonzaga (D.C.) capped an impressive season by winning the WCAC crown. The Week Ahead: Girl’s High School Lacrosse

Last week in girl’s high school lacrosse was highlighted by some big games in the Tri-State area. St. Anthony’s (NY) had a huge week, going 2-0 while playing two of the top teams on Long Island. First on Wednesday, the Friars hosted Garden City (NY) and knocked off the previously undefeated Trojans in impressive fashion, winning 11-6. Then on Friday, the Friars traveled to Manhasset (NY), where they took down the Indians in overtime, 11-9. After an early loss in Florida to Vero Beach (FL), the Friars have been dominant, amassing a 13-1 overall record. It was also a big week for Moorestown (NJ), who went 2-0 to keep their undefeated season going at 17-0. The first of their two wins this week came last Tuesday over previously unbeaten Shawnee (NJ) by an 8-4 final. Then on Thursday, the Quakers took down Pennsylvania power Conestoga (PA), 15-10. This week features playoffs getting underway. ...

In a incredible finish last week in New York City High School action, Trinity (NY) took a dead ball at midfield and fired home the tying goal as time expired to tie Hackley (NY). The weekend in the boy’s high school landscape was highlighted by teams finishing their regular season slate and playoffs beginning. St. Anthony’s (NY) went 1-1 in two big games last week. First on Thursday, they fell to CHSAA rival Chaminade (NY), 7-5. The Friars had a quick turnaround, traveling to Yorktown (NY) on Saturday. The Huskers had lost only one game entering the day, and had defeated Chaminade earlier this year. In a great matchup, St. Anthony’s won in overtime, 13-12. Elsewhere on Long Island, Ward Melville (NY) capped off a perfect regular season, taking down Sachem East (NY) on Friday. Garden City (NY) spoiled Shoreham-Wading River’s (NY) perfect season, winning in overtime, 10-9, in a Nassau vs. Suffolk battle. And in a big Suffolk Class A matchup with playoff seeding implications, Smithtown West (NY) pulled away from Smithtown East (NY) by an 11-5 final. ...
