The Conversation
What are you most excited about with regards to your program?
We are a new program (first season 2017), great opportunity for growth!
What jumps out at you when recruiting? What do you look for in a player?
Positive attitude who never gives up.
What are your “pet peeves” when recruiting?
When players don’t return emails or phone calls.
What is the best way interested student-athletes should get in touch with you?
Emails.
What should student-athletes avoid in their messaging to college coaches?
Avoid cc-ing multiple college coaches on one email (it happens more times then you think).
How would you describe your coaching style?
My coaching style is in the moment correction with a positive environment where athletes aren’t afraid to try something new and not afraid to fail.
Walk us through your timeline when recruiting a student athlete?
Ideally see the player play their junior year, get them on campus late junior year/over summer, overnight visit in the fall of senior year, applied Nov/Dec, decision made before the holidays.
What kind of players succeed at your program?
Team players who buy into the mindset that no one is better then anyone else.
Tell us about your transition from lacrosse player to lacrosse coach.
I played D3 at Lasell College and was 1st team all conference my junior and senior year. Since then I have coach at youth, high school, and college level. I enjoy coaching d3 because I can relate to the students and have the most to give at that level.
What’s your recruiting strategy going into an event? After an event?
Since we are a brand new program I look at the students who have contacted me first and then try to find other players to reach out to.
Once again, thanks to CJ for her time, and best of luck to Newbury this season!
