Last week, LRNews went behind the scenes with the Wesleyan Men’s Lacrosse team for a Fall weekend, catching a glimpse of the program both on and off the field.
In Part 2 of our 5-part Wesleyan Video Series, Head Coach John Raba and Asst. Coach Charlie Congleton discuss what they look for in a player while on the recruiting trail.
At Wesleyan, the student-athlete experience is one predicated on the balance between academics and athletics. Taking in a captain’s practice on Homecoming weekend (NESCAC rules prohibit organized team activity in the Fall), it was obvious this year’s team is motivated to be a real player this season on the field.
Being a student first is stressed heavily in the program, and finding athletes that want to exceed both in the classroom and on the field provides a great window into the Division III lacrosse experience.
In the interest of disclosure, I am graduate of the University, and can attest to the excellent balance a school like Wesleyan provides a student-athlete.
