ss2The 2013 Super Sophs Boys Showcase took place on Saturday, July 27 at Greenwich High School in Greenwich, Connecticut.

The one-day event featured over 200 members of the 2015 Class, broken up into 12 teams. Participants hailed from 21 States, 159 high schools, and represented over 120 club teams.

After registration, the day began with an informative recruiting seminar run by SportsRecruits.com. The informational session, which was open to players and parents, provided an overview of the recruiting timeline and featured a Q & A to aid players and their families.

There were plenty of coaches on hand at Greenwich High School, including Amherst, Army, Bryant, Bucknell, Fairfield, Hofstra, Loyola, Navy, Stony Brook and Wesleyan among many others.

Here are five players that stood out and some others who made an impression.


SUPER SOPHS BOYS SHOWCASE – FEATURED FIVE:

1. CHAD MORSE

Position: Attack

Class: 2015

High School: St. Paul’s (NH)

Overall: Morse is a quick, shifty attackman who had an excellent day at Super Sophs. An initiator from X, he was a very effective dodger who rarely failed to create separation from his defender. Morse possesses a lightning-quick first step, and goes to the cage with his eyes up to locate cutters. He was productive and comfortable as a finisher or feeder, and coaches should like his unselfish play and ability to force a defense to move.

From the Notebook: Quick. Smaller and shifty. Awesome first step. Initiator. Scored at will on occasion.

2. THOMAS LA ROSE

Position: Midfield

Class: 2015

High School: Seton Hall Prep (NJ)

Overall: LaRose is an explosive dodger from the midfield who can initiate offense and get the defense moving with ease. A player with great size, LaRose possesses an outstanding first step and has an excellent split dodge. He is a North/South dodger who gets down the alley without much wasted movement, and does a great job of getting his hands free. He has an outstanding shot on the run – hard and accurate – which he showcased on many occasions at Super Sophs.

3. CHRISTIAN PUNG

Position: Defense

Class: 2015

High School: Immaculata (NJ)

Overall: Pung is a fast defenseman who was a force in the transition game. He has an excellent stick and was very effective in the clearing game, legging numerous clears to the offensive end himself. His ground ball play was also very noteworthy – he was able to run full-speed through the ball, giving him a head start on riding attackman as he ran the ball upfield. Defensively, Pung has good feet and plays solid position.

From the Notebook: GB guy. Fast. Great stick in the clearing game. Good footwork.

4. JAMES DAVISON

Position: Goalie

Class: 2015

High School: Paul Wharton High School (FL)

Overall: An athletic and acrobatic goaltender, the Florida product had an outstanding day in the cage. Davison was superb inside, making numerous saves on shooters near the crease on broken plays and fast breaks. He showed the ability to seize momentum for his team by stringing together numerous difficult saves and moving the ball quickly to breaking midfielders and defenseman. He was effective on shots from the outside, and was vocal with his teammates identifying ball carriers and field position.

From the Notebook: Acrobatic. Best when things break down. Makes tough saves. Good outlets. Fun to watch.

5. JONNY SCHREIBER

Position: LSM/Defense

Class: 2015

High School: Livingston (NJ)

Overall: A rangy LSM, Schreiber has a very active stick to go along with very sound footwork. He covers ground effortlessly, and his positioning allows him to throw a bevvy of smart checks on the move. In transition, he is a force, with top-end speed to match his excellent stick skills allowing him to push the ball upfield. He is excellent on ground balls, and fluid getting the ball up-and-out of the defensive zone.

From the Notebook: Good feet. Plays position defense. Excellent stick. Fluid on GBs. Smart.

Others who made an impression:

Jack Brennan – A – 2015 – Chaminade (NY): A fluid attackman, Brennan impressed with his outstanding lacrosse IQ. He has ideal size for an attackman, and his game is polished. Brennan has outstanding vision, and displayed great anticipation, leading teammates with excellent touch. His ability to see the entire field and consistently make plays will make him a player to watch this season at Chaminade.

Troy Hanlon – A – 2015 – Delbarton (NJ): A attackman with a good blend of size and speed, Hanlon was dominant at times at Super Sophs. A solid dodger, he plays with tenacity and attacks the cage with purpose, using his size to shield his stick from defenders. Hanlon has a powerful shot, and was most effective near the cage, finishing with poise on numerous occasions.

Brad Landry – M – 2015 – Mountain Lakes (NJ): Landry is a tremendous athlete at the midfield with top-end speed. He is a great dodger from up top, and uses his quick feet to get a step on defenders. He has an outstanding shot on the run, which he displayed on multiple occasions during the day.

Cameron Rasco – LSM – 2015 – Choate-Rosemary Hall (CT): An athletic LSM, the Miami, Florida product impressed with his stick work in the middle of the field. He was excellent on ground balls, and had a knack for knowing when to push the ball in transition. On one occasion we took in, Rasco had an outstanding dodge to the cage, calmly putting the ball in the net with his pole.

Danny DeSanti – D – 2015 – St. Anthony’s (NY): DeSanti is an athletic defender who plays very hard. On-ball, he has sound footwork and throws good, hard chop checks. But what impressed us most on the day was his off-ball play. He hustled back into help position and was vocal in sliding situations. He also displayed good stick skills, throwing accurate outlet passes on a line with both hands.
