The weekend in the boys high school landscape was highlighted by teams winding down their regular season slates and playoffs beginning. St. Anthonys (NY) went 1-1 in two big games last week, falling to CHSAA rival Chaminade (NY), 7-5 before besting Yorktown (NY) in overtime on Saturday.
Playoffs are underway in many areas, with some Long Island games beginning yesterday, including Garden City (NY) taking down Bethpage (NY) among the notable victories.
Meanwhile, the season concluded in more areas, including California, where St. Ignatius (CA) took the MCAL crown and in Washington, D.C., where Gonzaga (D.C.) capped an impressive season by winning the WCAC crown.
Playoffs get into full swing this week.
GAME(S) OF THE WEEK
MIAA Semi-Finals & Final, Tuesday and Friday
With many of the top teams getting byes in most areas, the MIAA takes center stage this week. First up are the semi-finals, which are set for today at Towson. Calvert Hall (MD) takes on Boys Latin (MD), while McDonogh (MD) faces Loyola-Blakefied (MD). The winners will play for the title on Friday night.
Can anyone stop Boys Latin this season?
TEAM TO WATCH
Smithtown East (NY)
After falling to in-town rival Smithtown West (NY) last week, Smithtown East (NY) made their road a bit more difficult in Suffolk County Class A. The Bulls have had a solid season, but lost two of their final three games to miss out on a bye.
They will first take on Riverhead (NY) on Thursday. The winner will advance to play the winner of the Lindenhurst (NY)-West Islip (NY) game on Friday. Can the Bulls recover to make salvage a once promising season?

STAT OF THE WEEK
An interesting note on the Deerfield (MA) at Salisbury (CT) matchup Wednesday, May 15
In a big matchup in New England this week, Deerfield will take on rival Salisbury. The teams have split their past four meetings; Deerfield has taken the previous two, including last seasons 11-10 overtime triumph. Salisbury took the 2009 and 2010 contests, handing the Big Green their only losses of each season.
This should be a great matchup in New England. LR News will be on hand, so be sure to check back for video and content.
