Last week, the boys high school season featured some great games, highlighted by two teams Boys Latin (MD) and Ward Melville (NY) keeping their undefeated seasons intact as they head into the home stretch.
Meanwhile, the season is over already in some areas, including Texas, where St. Marks (TX) took down Episcopal Dallas (TX) in overtime, 8-7, to win the State Championship.
Many teams are winding down their schedules this week, with some great matchups.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Boys Latin (MD) at St. Pauls (MD) Tuesday, 5/7
The regular season enters its final day in the MIAA today, with some great matchups on the schedule. As mentioned above, Boys Latin enters the day unbeaten at 17-0 and looks to cap a perfect regular season. St. Pauls is having a resurgent season at 15-3, but comes into the game today having lost their past two contests last week to McDonogh (MD) and Gilman (MD).
Can the Crusaders get back on track and spoil the Lakers bid for perfection? Should be a great rivalry game today.
TEAM TO WATCH
St. Anthonys (NY)
After back-to-back losses to Delbarton (NJ) and Chaminade (NY) in early April, St. Anthonys has won five consecutive games and enters the week at 9-2. This week, the Friars face two very difficult games against a pair of 12-1 teams.
First, on Thursday, they host Chaminade (NY) in the second of the presumed three matchups between the two schools, and look to avenge the Flyers victory earlier this season. Second, they will hit the road to face a very good Yorktown (NY) team, whose only loss this season came in double overtime to Shenendehowa (NY) on April 6. Since the loss, the Huskers have reeled off nine consecutive victories.
A big week for the Friars as they look to enter the CHSAA playoffs continuing their recent string of good play.
[Content note: LR News will be on-sit at the Chaminade-St. Anthonys game Thursday. Be sure to check back for much more!]
STAT OF THE WEEK
An interesting note on St. Marks (TX)
Last weekend, St. Marks defeated Episcopal Dallas (TX) 8-7 in overtime to win the Texas State Championship. It was the first State Title for the Lions, who since 2007 had made four appearances in the championship game before falling short.
For St. Marks, the fifth time was the charm. Congratulations to the Lions on winning a thrilling title game!
