The weekend in the boys high school landscape was highlighted by two teams keeping their records unscathed and the Texas State Championships.
Boys Latin (MD) has been incredible all season, and pushed their record to 17-0 with a 13-8 victory over Loyola-Blakefield (MD) on Friday. The Lakers are one win away from navigating through a very difficult regular season MIAA and out-of-conference schedule unbeaten. They play St. Pauls (MD) on Tuesday in their season finale.
Meanwhile on Long Island, the Ward Melville Patriots (NY) have established themselves as the team to beat, moving to 14-0 with wins over William Floyd (NY) on Thursday and Bayshore (NY) and Saturday. Two games remain for the Patriots in their quest for an undefeated regular season.
[Note: We had some fun on Friday and examined what a potential Boys Latin and Ward Melville game would look like.]
Malvern Prep (PA) continued its great season last week with some big wins in Pennsylvania. On Tuesday, they took down Penn Charter (PA) by an 11-4 count before dispatching Episcopal Academy (PA), 11-5, on Saturday.
Yorktown (NY) continued to impress last week, beating previously undefeated Ridgefield (CT) on Tuesday by an 11-8 count before taking down Lakeland/Panas (NY) 14-2 on Saturday. The Huskers are now 12-1 this season.
In a big game in Upstate New York on Saturday, Niskayuna (NY) beat Jamesville-DeWitt (NY), 10-9. The Silver Warriors remain undefeated at 12-0, while the Red Rams dropped their first game of the year and fell to 13-1.
Chaminade (NY) rebounded from last Saturdays Yorktown loss with three victories last week, including taking down Greenwich (CT), 12-5, on Saturday. In another Connecticut-Long Island matchup the same day, St. Anthonys (NY) took down Darien (CT), 8-6.
Finally, it was State Championship Weekend in Texas. In the semi-finals on Saturday, Episcopal Dallas (TX) snuck by Dallas Jesuit (TX), 6-5, while St. Marks (TX) took care of Highland Park (TX) by an 8-4 score. In a thrilling Championship Game Sunday, St. Marks took down Episcopal Dallas in overtime, 8-7. Congratulations to the 2013 State Champion St. Marks Lions!
