Some news and notes in advance of this afternoons big interstate matchup as St. Ignatius travels to the East Coast to face Chaminade (photo credit: Mineola-Patch).
BOTH TEAMS ARE UNDEFEATED
Both St. Ignatius and Chaminade enter the game with spotless records.
The Wildcats are 16-0, winning their games in impressive fashion. They have defeated Torrey Pines (CA), Coronado (CA) and Redwood (CA) thus far this season.
Meanwhile, the Flyers are 8-0 against a very difficult schedule. They have wins over Manhasset (NY), West Islip (NY) and St. Anthonys (NY) already to their credit.
WEST COAST vs. EAST COAST
This is one of the bigger interstate games in recent memory as St. Ignatius comes to play on the East Coast for the first time. One of the best programs in California, the Wildcats have only lost a total of four games the past two seasons, and none thus far in 2013.
Meanwhile, Chaminade is a perennial power on Long Island. In addition to their usual bouts with St. Anthonys for the CHSAA Championship, the Flyers are always a player in the national discussion.
KEEP AN EYE ON: ST. IGNATIUS OFFENSE vs. CHAMINADE DEFENSE
St. Ignatius enters todays contest with prolific offensive numbers. The Wildcats are averaging 14.9 goals per game en route to their 16-0 record.
Meanwhile, Chaminades defense is giving up just 3.9 goals per game thus far, a pretty amazing number considering the level of competition they have faced. The Flyers have not given up more than six goals in any of their eight games this season.
