Last week, there were some fantastic interstate girls high school matchups, one of which featured a notable upset.
Down in Florida, Vero Beach (FL) took down St. Anthonys (NY) by a surprising 13-12 score. Vero Beach moved to 12-4 on the season, while St. Anthonys dropped to 2-1.
In another big interstate matchup, Cherry Creek (CO) winners of two of the past three Colorado State Titles traveled to perennial power Moorestown (NJ) winners of 13 consecutive New Jersey State Titles. The game was close early before Moorestown pulled away for the 15-4 win.
This week features some great matchups and an excellent showdown in Washington, D.C.
Game of the Week: St. Stephens/St. Agnes (VA) at Georgetown Visitation (D.C.) (Wednesday, 4/10)
A huge matchup pits No. 2 St. Stephens/St. Agnes against No. 3 Georgetown Visitation on Wednesday. The teams are both undefeated at 11-0 and 9-0, respectively. Should be a great one between Top-5 teams.
Team to Watch: Northport (NY)
Northport enters the week at 4-0, having scored at least 13 goals in each of their victories. This week, there are two big games on the schedule. First, they pay a visit to rival Ward Melville (NY) on Wednesday, who after a season-opening loss has righted the ship at 4-1. Following that game, the Tigers host William Floyd (NY) Saturday.
Stat of the Week: An interesting note on McDonogh (MD):
The Eagles are the top-ranked team in the country in the latest Nike/US Lacrosse National High School poll, sporting an 11-0 record. They are averaging an uncanny 15.2 goals per game, and their closest margin of victory this year has been three.
This week looks like the trend of big wins may continue, as they play two games against teams with a combined 3-11 record.
