Each Monday this spring, we will be discussing some news and notes from the weekend in high school action.
While the temperatures here in New York say otherwise, the season in boys high school lacrosse is well underway in many areas. This week will see many teams in the Northeast begin their schedules, where across the board there have been some excellent matchups already.
Last week was a huge one for the Hill Academy (Ont., Canada). After dropping a game to a resurgent St. Pauls (MD) team, they went on to defeat Gonzaga (D.C.), Calvert Hall (MD), and Landon (MD). Props to head coach Brodie Merrill and his team for putting together such a daunting schedule.
Speaking of St. Pauls (MD), be on the lookout for the Crusaders. The team, which endured a rough season last year (finishing 3-15), is off to a great start. They have already equaled their win total from all of 2012 (currently 3-0), with wins over Haverford (PA) and the previously mentioned victory over Hill Academy (Ont., Canada) on their early résumé.
Some notable scores from last weekend:
Friday:
Saint Ignatius Prep (CA) 9, Coronado (CA) 8
Boys’ Latin (MD) 11, Penn Charter (PA) 3
Hill Academy (Ont., Canada) 13, Landon (MD) 8
Saturday:
St. Pauls (MD) 11, Haverford (PA) 8
Gonzaga (D.C.) 7, St. Albans (D.C.) 4
Be sure to check back Tuesday for a weekly preview of the big games and other notes for the week ahead.
Note: With many teams still not yet in action on the girls side, we will debut our coverage next week.
