Here are just some of the many notable performances on the men’s side for games played the weekend of March 8-10, 2013.


2012 Men (HS Graduation Year)
Frank Fusco – Drexel – Fr. – Attack/Midfield
Fusco netted a pair of goals as Drexel topped Bryant, 11-5. He also added an assist in the contest, bringing his season total to 14 points (10G, 4A).

Conor Gately – Marquette – Fr. – Attack
Gately tallied a goal and four assists as the Golden Eagles fell to Jacksonville, 13-7. For the season, Gately leads team with nine points (2G, 7A). He has also scooped up five ground balls.

Chris Kendall – Quinnipiac – Fr. – Defense
Kendall picked up four ground balls in the Bobcats’ 10-6 victory over Vermont. He has played and started all three of Quinnipiac’s games this season (entering today’s matchup with Providence), picking up seven ground balls.

Case Matheis – Duke – Fr. – Attack
Matheis had two goals as Duke knocked off Loyola, 9-8. On the season, Matheis has six points (4G, 2A) and six ground balls while appearing in all seven of Duke’s contests.

2011 Men (HS Graduation Year)
Kevin Campbell – Wesleyan – So. – Defense
Campbell recorded three ground balls and caused a turnover in Wesleyan’s two victories over the weekend. Opening their NESCAC slate with back-to-back home contests, the Cardinals defeated Williams 7-6 on Saturday followed by a 12-6 win over Hamilton on Sunday.

Mike Cantelli – Cortland – So. – Midfield
Cantelli scored a goal as the top-ranked Red Dragons pulled away from Scranton, 8-3. On the season, he has six points (3G, 3A) and one ground ball.

Richard Gregory – Union – So. – Attack
Gregory notched a goal in Union’s 10-6 victory over Babson. He currently ties for first on the team with five points (4G, 1A) while adding five ground balls.

Tim Jacob – Brown – So. – Attack
Jacob recorded two goals and one ground ball in the Bears’ 17-9 win over St. Joseph’s. He now has four points on the season (4G) to go along with two ground balls.

Michael Quinn – Yale – Fr. – Defense/LSM
Quinn recorded two ground balls in the Bulldogs’ 12-8 win over Fairfield. He has started all four of Yale’s games this season, scoring a goal while registering eight ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Ryan Rielly – Hofstra – So. – LSM
Rielly scooped up five groundballs and had a key pass deflection with time winding down in Hofstra’s 9-8 victory over Notre Dame. For the season, Rielly has appeared in each of the Pride’s five games, registering one point (1G), 17 ground balls and six caused turnovers.

Sam Somers – Army – So. – Goalkeeper
Somers recorded nine saves as Army defeated Rutgers, 10-8. On the season, he has started five games for the Black Knights, posting 44 saves and a .647 save percentage. He was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for February 25 following a career-high 18-save performance in a 6-2 loss at Syracuse.

Matthew Virgilio – Amherst – So. – Defense
Virgilio recorded two ground balls and caused two turnovers in the Lord Jeff’s two games this weekend. Opening their NESCAC slate with two tough road games, Amherst fell in overtime in each contest, first to Colby, 11-10 on Saturday and then to Bates, 10-9 on Sunday.
